You’re never far away from good fish & chips

As a Grimsby girl, it’s a bit of a cliché that I love a good chippie tea. I firmly believe fish, chips and peas is a British staple that we all need to indulge in once in a while (or every Friday for some people!) The best thing about living in a coastal town is that you’re never more than five minutes away from a chip shop. If you’re in the middle of Cleethorpes, you’re never more than arm’s length away from one!
Seaside living is great for your mental health
Living by the sea is officially great for your mental wellbeing. Things like the cleaner sea air, soothing sounds of the waves and opportunities for socialising and exercising make seaside living a good way to support your mental health.
There are plenty of things to do
A beach is a place that allows for lots of hobbies. While you can exercise for free by going for a run on the sand, or cycling along the sea wall, there are also clubs and private lessons you can take for more premium sports. SUP has gained popularity in recent years, and surfing has always been the go-to hobby when you think of beaches.
It’s a free play area for your kids

Kids love sand (and digging, and making a mess), so what better way to entertain them for free than taking them to the beach? Days at the seaside are often portrayed as expensive, but if you’re a local, there’s no reason it should be. Take a pack up and plenty of drinks, and don’t forget a couple of towels and you bucket and spade. You can easily spend an afternoon on the sand without spending as much as a penny.
The beach is beautiful all year round
Whether the sun is beaming down or there’s snow on the sand, the beach is always beautiful to look at. It’s a place that inspires creativity, provides a beautiful scene to paint, or even just a lovely backdrop for your Instagram photos!
It can be a great place to clear your head
The white noise from the waves can be soothing for the soul, and the sea air in your lungs can help with circulation, making the beach the perfect place to unwind. When modern life gets too much, kick of your shoes and get the sand between your toes as you clear your head on a coastal stroll.
It’s an area that fosters creativity
Ever wanted to paint a beachy sunset? Or make jewellery out of sea glass? Perhaps you enjoy collecting shells to make collages with the kids, or enjoy snapping photos of tourists at dusk. Whatever your outlet, the beach provides a space that inspires art and creativity. There’s nowhere else quite like the beach.
You can get that holiday feeling for free
Can’t afford a holiday this year? No problem! Become a tourist in your hometown. When you live by the sea, it feels like you’re on holiday every day. Just because it’s your home, doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to visit. Remember, people pay to stay in your town and enjoy the local attraction, just because you don’t have to travel far doesn’t make it any less fun!
