I’d been following Pop Up Play Village on Facebook for a while before I decided to attend a session. My kids have an awkward age gap that mean the oldest was too old, the middley was in school and the youngest seemed too young. I’ve since learned that Pop Up Play Village Grimsby offer a session for pre-walking babies, but my youngest is toddling about now, so we’ve missed the boat to sample that!
When I first took Orlaith (our youngest), she was about 14 months and only cruising. She walks confidently now, but at the time she didn’t, and I was nervous this group wouldn’t be right for her. Thankfully I was able to message the Facebook page and the helpful person manning the chat function steered me in the right direction and reassured me she was a great age for the main session.
I had to book ahead and attended just as safety restrictions were easing, so I wore a mask and so did the lovely ladies running the session.
Pop Up Play Village Grimsby Review
The Grimsby session I took my daughter to was at Great Coates village hall, which seemed like it would be hard to find when I looked on a map, but was actually quite easy. The best way to find it is to look for the sign on Station Road, then take the immediate left onto Cook’s Lane.
When I arrived, some people hadn’t booked ahead but there was still space for them. I would advise to book ahead to avoid disappointment, but it looked as though it’s not necessary if you’re happy to risk it.
How much does Pop Up Play Village Cost?
For one child and one adult, you pay £5.50 plus £4 for any additional children who are of walking age. If you have a pre-walker sibling, the additional fee is only £2.50 and it’s the same price for an additional adult.
The session is only 45 minutes, and the price was a little more than I’d usually pay for that amount of time, but it had such a good reputation, I really wanted to see for myself. While £5.50 is quite steep for a short stay-and-play session, I will say it was worth every penny. Orlaith got loads out it and I’ll definitely be taking her again soon.
What happens at Pop Up Play Village Grimsby?
The atmosphere at Pop Up Play Village is really relaxed. There’s no fixed structure where you have to move on after so many minutes, which I think is really good. If you child is particularly enamoured with one of the areas of play, they can stay there as long as they want, and revisit as often as they like too.
They layout was really intuitive and each area was clearly separate, but easy enough to access. There were lots of different styles of play stations, including a ‘home’ area with dolls, a vet and animal care section, a café, a construction area, a baby mat, a ready section, and a beach play tuff tray.
Orlaith made her way around the room, spending time exploring each play section. As she’s under two, her attention span is quite short, so she moved around quite a bit and revisited her favourite areas. The 45 minute session was about right for her age, but I think if I was taking a 3 or 4 year old pre-schooler, I’d probably want to get more time for my money. That being said, there was a lot to occupy the kids, so it was still worth it.
The women who run the group are really lovely and interact with the children nicely too. If you’re looking for somewhere to take your children to occupy them for a while, I’d definitely recommend Pop Up Play Village, and we’ll certainly be returning soon!
