Cleethorpes Boating Lake Boat Hire
One of the best things about the boating lake is that you can hire a boat and tale a better look at the wildlife. There’s even a 4-seater boat in the shape of a giant swan! In the summer, the boat hire place is usually open 10am-5pm. There is an option to just turn up and hire a boat, but booking is advised for busier periods, and the team can contacted on Facebook.

Cleethorpes Paddling Pool
Cleethorpes Paddling Pool has recently undergone a fancy makeover, and is a gorgeous place to take the kids. It’s open 11am-5pm and free to enter, but Harrison’s Ices are on site for all your cooling ice cream needs. There’s a water fountain that seems to be active on weekends and during school holidays (I can’t vouch for weekdays term-time because I haven’t been).
If you’re not familiar with the area, you might want to park on the stretch of carpark closest to the Leisure Centre for convenience. The paddling pool is a short walk over the tracks for the light railway and to the left if you’re coming in the direction where the ice cream kiosk at the edge of the carpark is behind you.
Cleethorpes Sandpit
Cleethorpes Boating Lake Sandpit is another free-to-enter gem that’s a great place to take your kids. Build sand castles, climb the wooden pirate ships and make friends with the other visitors. There are no barriers to the sandpit so it’s technically open all day, but it does get busy around mid day to early afternoon when the weather is nice.
Cleethorpes TapHouse & Kitchen
Situated at the Discovery Centre, right next to the lake, Cleethorpes TapHouse & Kitchen is a fab place to eat and drink. If you’re in the area, it really is a must-visit. Now the summer period has started, it’s open 10am -10pm daily until September. Offering a range of tasty food and fancy drinks, it’s a fantastic place to stop for a feed or drop in for a tipple. Fishing at Cleethorpes Boating Lake
As far as I’m aware, you can still fish at Cleethorpes Boating Lake, providing you keep to the side of the lake that doesn’t offer boat hire. I’ve seen people out there with fishing rods in recent years, but I can’t find official information either way. My dad was a regular angler at the boating lake, and I don’t think much has changed with permissions since he fished it. You will probably need a fishing license if you don’t already have one.
Jungle Zoo Cleethorpes
Right on the carpark for Cleethorpes Boating Lake is the Jungle Zoo, facing out to the cars with its back towards the lake. It’s nice little place to visit, with animals on show. Boasting an array of tropical birds, marmosets and even a few goats, you and the family will be delighted by getting up close to the animals. Cleethorpes Coastal Light Railway
Right at the other end of Cleethorpes Boating Lake (as if you’re driving towards North Sea Lane) is Cleethorpes Coastal Light Railway. It’s a gorgeous, fully working miniature railway that kids just love to ride! Open til 5pm every day in the summer months (until October), with trains running every 30 minutes. It’s lovely train ride to take your kids on, and everyone waves as the train passes by.

Feeding the Ducks
Cleethorpes Boating Lake has lots of hungry ducks, swans and geese. There’s even an infamous black swan wandering around. I’m yet to see him but everyone else in the area seems to have! You can buy bird feed from The Discovery Centre and the Boat Hire Hut and I think the going rate is about 50p a bag. Be warned, the geese are very keen, so if there’s a lot of geese about, you might want to walk a little further and feed some less boisterous ducks.
Cleethorpes Boating Lake Car Park
There’s no shortage of parking at Cleethorpes Boating Lake. The first parking area you’ll spot if you’re driving down King’s Road towards North Sea Lane will be the stretch nearest the Leisure Centre. This is by far the smallest car parking area, so if it’s full, don’t worry, just keep driving!
The next entrance to the boating lake car park is after the roundabout that leads to McDonald’s, there’s mini roundabout a few metres up the road, which you need to turn left into for parking. Both car parks are council run and require pay & display tickets.
