Malham Cove – A Great Family Day Out!

Malham Cove is one of the best places to visit in Yorkshire Dales National Park. The spectacular attractions such as Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss waterfall attracts many tourists every year. You will be impressed by limestone cliffs, green hills and the unspoilt landscape of Yorkshire.

It takes only 1h 30 minutes driving from Manchester to Malham or 2 hours from Sheffield. In approximately 1 hour 15 minutes you can get there from Leeds. Malham is an absolutely amazing destination to visit outside of the city. Beautiful scenery, filming locations and a lot of legends will make you fall in love with this place.

The best way to get there is to drive to Yorkshire Dales National Park Car Park Malham. When visiting Malham, ensure to come there in the early morning. Due to the popularity of this area you might struggle to find parking space if you arrive later. It is ideal to visit Malham in summer, however it also looks very beautiful during winter time.

The short  trek to Malham Cove takes only 20-25 minutes. Although, the most spectacular views are from the top of the cove, so I truly recommend climbing for an extra 10 minutes to admire Yorkshire from high cliffs. All you need are decent hiking shoes, a backpacking camera and a good friend to accompany you in this beautiful place.

A circular walk that includes visiting Janet’s Foss waterfall is a great way to spend a day out with nature. This small waterfall is a favourite spot for those who love wild swimming. You will see a lot of people swimming there in the summer, but also in winter. If you are not afraid of cold water and want to have a magical experience, visit Janet’s Foss waterfall.

The name of it refers to the fairy queen who lived in the cave next to the waterfall. This place is full of legend and mystery so visiting Janet’s Foss waterfall is even more special. On your way to the waterfall you will see a lot of pennies in tree stumps as some people still believe in the magic of fairies that can make your wish come true.

Another spectacular waterfall is hidden between tall cliffs. In the heart of Gordale Scar flowing water creates scenic views. During the Ace Ages, melting ice created an incredible limestone gorge that you can see today. In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful waterfall settings in the whole country.

Malham Circular walk is not difficult and offers excellent views. It takes three hours to complete this trek, so plan a nice day out when visiting Malham. This famous filming location from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will offer you unforgettable experience. The scenery in Yorkshire Dales National Park is breathtaking and the cliffs are one of a kind.
