Simple Meals to Plan After Moving into Your New Home

While we all have to eat, it’s hard to find time to make meals when you’re in the process of moving into a new home. After buying one of the Banff homes for sale or a house anywhere else, with all the packing and unpacking, trying to find the items you need, and so on, cooking is probably the last thing you want to do right now.

Unfortunately, as moving can be stressful and energy-draining, it’s one of the worst times to skip eating nutritious meals now, you need healthy foods more than ever. When your body is poorly fed, stress takes a greater toll on your health, as the University of North Carolina notes. The better news is that there are simple, healthy meals that can be prepared in no time.

Honey-Glazed Salmon

honey glazed salmon

This tasty, nutritious meal takes 10 minutes or less to prepare. All you need is a 5-ounce salmon filet (or one per person), soy sauce, honey, and baby spinach leaves. Preheat your broiler and combine a half-teaspoon of soy sauce with a half-tablespoon of honey to use for the glaze. Increase the amounts for more filets. When your broiler is preheated, place the salmon in the oven for 5 minutes. Take it out and drizzle it with the honey glaze, returning it to broil for another 2 to 5 minutes. Serve the salmon atop the baby spinach leaves.

Easy Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole

Anything involving a slow cooker always feels easy because it’s just far less work. Not to mention, the work you actually put in is hours before the food is ready so it just feels like you meal has been magically prepared when it’s time to serve up! This easy slow cooker sausage casserole is super simple – all you need is a slow cooker, some sausages, some veg and a few common cupboard ingredients. Serve it on its own, with mash, or a massive side of crusty bread!

Tomato Soup with Veggies, Chicken or Beef

This super easy recipe calls for two 15-ounce cans of vegetable or chicken broth, a 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes, a cup of heavy cream, salt and black pepper to taste. Simmer it all together for 15 minutes and then add either veggies, chicken, or beef, whatever you have on hand. If you have them you can toss on garnishes like shredded cheese or fresh basil too.

Green Breakfast Smoothie

You need a healthy breakfast too, and this one is quick, tasty, and very nutritious. You can even enjoy it on the go. There are countless options which means you can substitute ingredients for whatever fruits and/or veggies you happen to have on hand, but we love this one. It calls for a half a banana, six large strawberries, a peeled and segmented orange, a third cup of plain Greek-style yogurt, and one cup of ice. Blend until smooth.

Pizza

Most frozen or delivered pizzas aren’t the healthiest option. But you can easily make your own using your favorite nutritious ingredients. If you’re avoiding gluten, you can even cheat a little and buy a premade cauliflower crust in the frozen section at the grocery store. Or, follow a simple no-yeast pizza crust recipe. All you need is two cups of white flour, two teaspoons of baking powder, a quarter teaspoon salt, a quarter cup of olive oil, and a quarter cup of water. Mix, knead and stretch out the dough (it’s a lot of fun when you need to relieve stress). Now, add some tomato sauce mixed with Italian seasoning, cheese and any toppings you want. Bake for 20 minutes in a 425-degree oven.

Chicken, Mango, & Arugula Salad

For this easy meal, slice up one or two chicken breasts and cook them in a skillet with a little coconut or olive oil. Chop up fresh mango into bite-size chunks (or use frozen chunks that have been thawed) and toss with arugula leaves. Add the chicken on top and you’ve got a fabulous salad that will keep your immune system going strong.
